Chief Executive Officer, Mr. John R. Barr, has over 30 years of experience in the medical device industry. Prior to joining Surgical Specialties Corporation, Mr. Barr served as the Executive Vice President and President of Global Surgical at Bausch & Lomb (until the company’s 2013 acquisition by Valeant Pharmaceuticals). From 2005 to 2011 Mr. Barr rose from the role of Chief Operating Officer to Chief Executive Officer of AGA Medical Corporation, which went public in 2009. As Chief Executive Officer of V.I. Technologies, from 1997-2005, he led the company’s 2008 IPO. Mr. Barr is also a past President and Member of the Board of Directors of Haemonetics Corporation and began his career at Baxter Healthcare Corporation.
Mr. Barr is a graduate of the J. L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management-Northwestern University where he earned his Master’s degree in finance, accounting and economics. He earned his undergraduate degree in bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania.
As Surgical Specialties Corporation's Executive Vice President of Global Manufacturing & Supply Chain Management, Mr. Diaz has over 20 years experience in the healthcare, medical device, and medical instrument industries. Prior to joining Surgical Specialties Corporation, Mr. Diaz was Vice President, Global Operations, at Teleflex Medical, the medical device and instrument manufacturing division of Teleflex Corporation. During his career at Teleflex, Mr. Diaz led a staff of 4,200 and was responsible for the global manufacturing, procurement, distribution, and complete supply chain with 25 plants and 23 distribution centers in Europe, Asia, Latin America, and the United States. Previously, Mr. Diaz served as Vice President of Manufacturing at both Kendall Healthcare, a subsidiary of Tyco Healthcare, and Tyco Healthcare Respiratory. He has a great deal of experience dealing with FDA compliant ISO and EN certified plants across Europe, Asia, and North America.
Mr. Diaz received a BA in Chemistry from the Universidad Autonoma de Baja, California.
Dan Sutherby, Chief Financial Officer, has experience with both public and private health sciences, medical device and diagnostic companies. Most recently, Dan spent six years as Chief Financial Officer at IQuum, a point of care molecular diagnostics company. Previously, Dan was Chief Financial Officer at Abiomed, a publicly held medical device company serving the cardiology and heart surgery markets. Prior to Abiomed, Dan spent eight years at PerkinElmer, a global S&P 500 company, in a variety of progressive corporate and operational financial management roles including Corporate Director of Accounting and Finance, Director of Finance for the company’s Life and Analytical Sciences $1B business unit, and Corporate Vice President of Investor Relations and Corporate Communications. Earlier in his career, Dan held senior financial management positions at various publicly held manufacturing and financial services firms. Dan is a Certified Public Accountant and has both a Master of Science Degree in Finance and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accountancy from Bentley University.
Brennan Marilla, Chief Commercial Officer, has over 20 years of experience in the medical device industry. Prior to joining Surgical Specialties, he spent four years in a number of progressive senior leadership roles at Covidien Vascular Therapies, including most recently VP & GM of the Endovascular business focused on growing their market leading peripheral interventional arterial and venous franchises. Prior to Covidien, Brennan spent twelve years at Medtronic in roles of increasing responsibility in sales, sales management, product management and global marketing. He served his last five years as VP of US Sales for their Endovascular Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) stent graft business, where he doubled revenue and profitability and captured market leadership during his tenure. In his earlier career, he served in various sales and sales management positions with AngioDynamics, Novartis Pharmaceuticals, and E&J Gallo Winery. Brennan has a B.A. in Business Management from North Carolina State University.
Janet Hart, Vice President, Human Resources brings over 25 years of HR Leadership in a variety of industries, with the last 15 in Medical Devices. Prior to joining Surgical Specialties, she was World Wide HR Director for DePuy Synthes (a Johnson and Johnson Medical Device Company)where during her tenure, she led HR for the Spine business, Finance and the Global R&D organizations. In these roles, Janet led significant cultural change, including as a key member of the HR Leadership Team, completing the integration of a major acquisition as well as the integration of multiple R&D organizations into a single organization driving improved productivity, collaboration and innovation. Prior to DePuy Synthes, Janet held a number of leadership positions including VP of HR at Boston Scientific Endosurgery and Aether Systems/Cerulean. Earlier in her career, she held HR leadership roles at 3COM, Digital Equipment Corp, and Analog Devices Semiconductor. Janet has a B.S. in Business Management from University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
